New Playground Layout
Many people have been asking what the new playground will look like when it is done. Below is a sketch where the hill slide, playground equipment, and new garden will be placed in relation to the school.

How to donate?
Help Support Begbie PAC with a monthly donation or a one-time donation. All funds will support the Begbie school community and our new school.
1. Donate online on the VSB SchoolCashOnline. With an online donation, you will get a digital tax receipt immediately. Ensure "Fund Destination" is for "E-Sir Matthew Begbie PAC". This is the only way that the Begbie PAC has access to your donation.

2. Send a Cheque/Cash to the school. Please make all cheques payable to "Sir Matthew Begbie PAC."

Our Journey
Our journey began on October 11, 2017 with the announcement by our provincial government to replace Sir Matthew Begbie School with a new school under the Provincial Seismic Mitigation Program. This will provide students and staff a safe school in event of an earthquake and a new 34,000-square-foot modern design with open learning spaces. The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) at Sir Matthew Begbie has been working closely with the school and the Vancouver Project Office (VPO) during this entire build process and has been working hard over the last few years to raise funds to pay for many expenses not covered by the Vancouver School Board.
The cost of the building, and landscaping will be covered by the VSB (Vancouver School Board). See posters boards below. Most of the furniture in the existing building will be moved to the new building.

- Rubber surfacing beneath the playground (instead of wood chips)
- A hillside slide (Kids can slide down to the playground from the school instead of taking stairs.)
- Furniture for the common areas (to encourage collaborative work outside the classroom).
- Rubber surfacing beneath hillside slide, mountaineering ropes, etc.
- A/V equipment
- Outdoor spaces including amphitheatre and raised garden beds

Our fundraising initiated in the 2018/2019 school year, with the goal to raise funds for the outdoor items that included playground rubber surfacing, hillside slide with rubber surfacing, and outdoor seating surfaces. Along the way, we applied for the Tire Stewardship of BC grant and was awarded a $30,000 matching grant in 2019. The following is a summary of fundraising to the end of May 2021:

Grants
The Begbie PAC has applied to the Tire Stewardship BC grant. Our grant application has been approved for the $30,000 in 2019.
