Dear Begbie Parent or Guardian,
As you know, the new school build is going to happen – and soon! The development permit application was submitted in September 2017. If all goes well, construction can begin in late 2019. The cost of the building, and landscaping will be covered by VSB. (See posters near the office to see what it will look like). We will have new pipes, new drinking fountains, and very likely a water bottle refilling station. Most of the furniture in the existing building will be moved to the new building. What is shown in the poster board, but will NOT be covered, are:
Student desks and chairs will be moved over from the old building. Teachers are likely to get new desks and chairs. They will first move the playground equipment to the grassy field. The new building will be located where the playground is currently located. Since VSB will be covering landscaping and the groundwork beneath the new playground (scraping off the grass, draining, etc.), we will only have to pay for the rubber surfacing and other equipment. This will cost $80,000 to $100,000. We are applying for grant money to help cover the cost. We cannot apply for grant money unless we have matching funds in our account at time of submission. Please help us maximize the amount of grant money we can request by increasing the amount of money in our account. Many grants are due very soon, so please take action ASAP. We need to get these grant money by October 2019, or the rubber surfacing will not happen. If it’s within your family’s budget, please consider donating $50 per student, $80 per family, or more – but ANY amount is welcome! This amount, added to our existing account, will get us to $30,000, which is the amount of the largest grant offering. All donation information will be kept private. Donations are voluntary. We welcome volunteers in lieu of monetary contribution – even if it’s just one day a year. How to donate:
Our ultimate goal is $100,000 by October 2019, including grants, donations, and fundraisers. Check our Facebook page and website for progress towards this goal. With all of us working together, we can achieve this! If we cannot get the funds by project start date, the money can be used to get furniture, other equipment, or where needed. There is more time to get funding for interior items as these can wait until after project completion. Thank you so much for your attention to this matter. Best regards, The Begbie PAC The Begbie PAC is happy to introduce Purdy's chocolate as our winter fundraiser. Our launch letter and a Purdy's catalogue will be sent home on Monday, November 5th. We earn 25% profit on a minimum of $1000 in chocolate sales. In the mean time, the campaign is live and you can register online at https://fundraising.purdys.com/join.aspx to start placing your orders. Our customer number is 41294. Please take a look at the catalogue below and share with your family and friends.
Fundraising Goal: $5000 in chocolate sales for a return of $1250 to PAC. **Please note that the campaign will be ONLINE only. No cash payments.** Good Afternoon,
Hope everyone has been enjoying the great stretch of weather. Just a few updates: 1. Movie night Oct.26 PAC presents Hotel Transylvania 3 Doors open @ 6:15pm Wear your costume, there will be prizes! There are still some volunteering opportunities with set up, clean up, and collecting admission at the door. Please email if you are interested in helping. 2. New school build update open house The open house was been re-scheduled for Thursday Nov.8 from 4:30 to 7:30pm. The city has sent out invitations to the neighborhood and an email has been sent out from the school. Encourage, if you can, to attend to see how our new school will look like. This is an opportunity to ask questions and understand the build process. There are some great features included but unfortunately due to the build budget landscaping extras like the amphitheater and rubber matting surface for the playground may not be covered. It will be up to PAC to help cover the cost of such extras. Last estimate, construction may start as early as Spring 2019. PAC is currently working to gathering more information and will soon present our findings and encourage feedback/comments on what items we want for our new school. 3. November PAC meeting This meeting has been re-scheduled a week earlier due to the principal’s availability. The meeting will be Tuesday, November 6 @ 7pm. 4. Volunteering Everything from hot lunches, Begbie fruit and vegetable program, to contacting VSB for new build information all rely on parent volunteers. With the anticipated increase in coordinating and running fundraising events/activities, we will need more volunteers. Volunteering opportunities will soon be posted on our website and PAC message board in the school. If there are any other areas that you can help, please feel free to contact us. 5. PAC Group Email Thank you to everyone that has signed up for our PAC group email. If you know anyone that would like to receive PAC email, please ask them to fill out the consent box on our website or send an email to us consenting to receive PAC email. We greatly appreciate the continued support from parents and the Begbie school staff. This is our school and the PAC is here to support. To achieve the best school environment for our children, we have to all come together and get involved. If you have a comment/suggestion or a school related issue, please feel free to contact us. Best, Bryan (PAC Chair) Good Morning,
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving long weekend. At our PAC meeting yesterday, we had a parent present a great fundraising idea with Neufeld farms. We as PAC, are very interested in pursuing this fundraiser and are looking to initiate probably in the Spring, please stay tuned. PAC events coming up: 1. Hot lunch - Oct. 12 (apologies for the very short turn around time to hand in order forms, we are trying a catering company) 2. Movie Night - Oct. 26: We will be showing Transylvania 3. Wear your costumes because there will be PRIZES. Details will be sent out soon. 3. Hot lunch - Nov.2 PAC is also currently gathering information about the new school build to better understand what we be required financially by our community. We will share this information with the parents so we can all be on the same page and come together to set goals to support our new school. Tentatively, there will be a community open house on Oct.25 @ 6:30pm to give a project update on the new school which should include design/schematic of the new school. Will email more details about this event if I get more info. I encourage everyone to come out and take advantage of this opportunity to get informed and ask questions. Please reach out to us if you would like to get involved in any capacity. PAC always welcomes comments/suggestions or if you have a school related concern/issue. Best, Bryan (PAC Chair) Begbie PAC is presenting a Halloween themed movie night on Friday, October 26, 2018. All movie goers are encouraged to come dressed in a costume. There will be prizes given out for best costumes.
A gentle reminder that this event is a fundraiser to help with student activities at Begbie Elementary. Bring extra cash for treats! Movie: Hotel Transylvania 3 (1 hour and 37 minutes run time) Synopsis (courtesy of IMDB): Count Dracula and company participate in a cruise for sea-loving monsters, unaware that their boat is being commandeered by the monster-hating Van Helsing family. Rating: PG Date: Friday, October 26, 2018 Time: 6:15pm (doors open), 6:45pm (movie starts) Admission: $3 per person at the door. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Concession: popcorn, drinks, candy, doughnuts, and pizza. Pizza order forms will be sent home mid-October. Hi Everyone,
Thank you to everyone that came out to the BBQ last Thursday. We hope you enjoyed meeting your child's/children's teacher! A special thanks to those who volunteered. Our success relies on volunteers. PAC will send out a schedule for the community events planned for the coming months soon. We hope you can join us and participate! Moving forward, especially with the seismic upgrade project (Begbie's new building), we will need more volunteers not just to help out with the day of the events/activities but to also help lead and organize. We will also need help with other aspects of PAC such as accounting, networking and contacting fundraising opportunities. Not all expenses are covered by the VSB for seismic upgrade projects and the work and support of school PACs and the parent communities are key in making sure that all the needs of students, teachers and staff are met. We, the Begbie community, need to understand the process and our financial responsibility for this important project. PAC is currently working hard in putting together information to present to parents so we can all be on the same page and work towards a common goal. We look forward to continue to work together to keep making our Begbie community great! -Begbie PAC |
